From time to time we will post stories from REAL women who have used EC. We’d be happy if you would submit any personal encounters you have with EC, either positive or negative. Here’s our first story:
First, I’d like to tell you that usually I’m on the pill and have always used a condom with my boyfriend of 6 months. Then I ran out of pills. Then me and my bf broke up and made up w/in a week (my fault, I deserved it). In the heat of the moment we had unprotected sex. The next morning we drove to Walgreens and got some Plan B emergency contraception (EC). We’re now back to condoms until I get more pills.
I just wanted to share that with you guys, so that if anyone has unprotected sex (or the condom broke or you missed pills and didn’t use a condom or whatever) will know that there’s no shame in going out and getting the tools they need to protect themselves from an unwanted pregnancy.
Twice before I have taken friends to get Plan B. The first time, a male friend caled me and told me that he and his gf had a condom break. This was back before EC was approved for over-the-counter sale, so I drove them to Planned Parenthood to get a perscription, then to the pharmacy to get it.
The second time, a female friend called me because she had unprotected sex while very drunk. By now, EC was approved for over-the-counter sale, so I just went for moral support.
For me and my friends, it was very easy and not traumatic at all. You just go to the pharmacy window and ask for Plan B. The pharmacist will ask to see your ID and you must be 18 or older (if you aren’t, get a friend to get it for you). For me, Plan B cost $45 but I think it will vary in different areas.
