Free Morningafter Pill for Teenagers
TEENAGE girls in Bolton are to be given the morning-after pill by chemists free of charge – and without their parents’ knowledge.
They will be able to walk into 30 pharmacists across the borough to ask for the pill.
The scheme aims to cut down on the number of teenage pregnancies.
I, obviously, think this is a great idea. After “being scared” comes “it costs too much” on reasons as to why teenagers don’t/can’t/won’t get EC. * EC is not cheap, and teenagers as a whole don’t have a ton of money. Providing it for free is not going to increase the amount of sex teenagers are having, it’s only going to (hopefully) decrease the number of teenage pregnancies.
I hope that if this idea catches on, and more cities embrace it!
*This is, of course, based on my very scientific research of calling out to my house mates, “hey, what would be your main excuse for not getting EC?”
